Most Rev. Ernesto Antolin Salgado D.D.

Archbishop Ernesto Antolin Salgado is a native of Sta. Lucia, Ilocos Sur. Born on November 22, 1936, he spent his college years at the Immaculate Conception Major Seminary and graduated in 1958. Thereafter, he transferred at the Pontifical University of Sto. Tomas Central Seminary in Manila where he obtained his Licentiate in Philosophy and completed his theological studies with a Licentiate in Sacred Theology. He was ordained Deacon on September 24, 1961 at the Vigan Cathedral.

His first assignment was at the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary, where he was a Junior Prefect. Later, he became the Rector of the said seminary until 1972. In 1973 to 1974, Fr. Salgado joined the Team Ministry of the Vigan Cathedral. He subsequently embarked to Rome for his further studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University where he obtained his Doctorate in Sacred Theology. Fr. Salgado came back to the Philippines and was assigned as formator of the Immaculate Conception Major Seminary in 1978. He served as a Vice Rector, Prefect of Discipline, and Professor of Moral Theology. Fr. Salgado was also in charge of the Spiritual Formation Year Program from 1981 to 1986.

On October 17, 1986, the Holy See elected him as a Titular Bishop of Buruni and Coadjutor Bishop of the MontaƱosa by succession on December 18, 1988. He was appointed as the First Vicar Apostolic of the newly erected Apostolic Vicariate of Baguio on July 6, 1992. The Holy See moved him to the Diocese of Laoag on December 7, 2000 and was installed on January 30, 2001. On February 12, 2005, Bishop Salgado was appointed sixth Archbishop of Nueva Segovia. He was installed on May 30, 2005. Up to the present, he serves as the Chief Shepherd of Nueva Segovia with his motto, Pro Populo Consecratus (Consecrated for the People).
